Category Archives: Artist Trading Cards
I was asked a little while back to make a steampunk-style guitar pickguard template for a friend, and I’m still musing on it / learning basics of style. I found some ATC-sized carstock lying around and dug up my circle templates and just started musing.
The mechanical side; obviously; he’s not going for punk fashion gracing his guitar, however fun that might turn out.
I think I need to do more research on clocks first before I brave the actual design. Making circles and things was kind of relaxing, though.
I’d previously mentioned that I was doing some work to submit to ATCsForAll‘s upcoming book, and I’ve finally gotten some done. Since I’m not much of a collage artist but I still wanted to do something in more of a traditional fashion than my usual digital work, I decided to pull out my liquid acrylics.
They’re so much more forgiving than watercolor, but not as forgiving as “Undo”. It was fun to do these little cards; I will probably be pulling out the paint more often!
It’s probably pretty easy to tell what my favorite ones were.
With the release of Wrath of the Lich King (lovingly misspelled “lick king” before proofreading), my artmaking has slowed to a crawl. >_> Not the best of things, I know, but after this first weekend, it should all be okay.
I’ve been working on some ATCs for the book that ATCsForAll wants to publish, and I noticed that one of my designs seemed…familiar.
My adorable little owl will be making an ATC-sized comeback, probably in liquid acrylics instead of paper.
Hee hee.
Since I haven’t had the resources to make myself a new set of business cards, I doodled an ATC for SketchCrawl, just in case.
I printed eight copies of the lineart onto cardstock, then cut them out into the proper size (3.5″x2.5″). I then took the seven good ones (I fail at cutting) and colored them in by hand. All relevant contact information is on the back.
So a little while ago, I stumbled across the concept of “Artist Trading Cards” or “Art Cards, Editions and Originals” and I’m thinking of giving it a go. I felt a little overwhelmed by the collage works and the miniature oils and such that I found on many an art card site, but it seems that digital artists can play too.
I’m starting off by doing 10-card runs of:
- Enough?
- Introduction
- Soldiers’ Stories (“Island” for Illustration Friday)
- Aggie and Eloise
- The Tin Man
- Love Hurts
Thinking of both trading and giving some to friends/family. ^^ Anyone up for a trade?
